Serious Music Education
I have been passionate about music and education since my youth. I began playing piano when I was five years old and the instrument has been my solace and my inspiration ever since. I received a Bachelor’s degree in piano in 2003, and recently expanded and refined my skill at the instrument with a Master’s in Music in piano pedagogy and performance. Over the years I have learned the value of patience, diligence, and practice, and I reflect these values in my teaching.
Music for me is both a passionate art and a source of great intellectual stimulation. I earned a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Washington, and have spent my career as a scholar exploring music off the beaten path of our classical tradition. My research interests include the music of Fanny Hensel, Teresa Carreño, and Louise Farrenc.
